Today was one of the most important days of the pregnancy: the anatomy scan. I was incredibly nervous and excited at the same time. This scan is done halfway through pregnancy to check all of the baby’s organs. It’s exciting to see the baby in such great detail, but it’s also incredibly nerve wracking because you never know what they will find. I was blown away by everything they were able to look at. They checked the chambers of her heart, the hemispheres of her brain, the kidneys, the renal arteries, the spine, the stomach, etc. They are also able to check for the presence of things like a club foot or a cleft lip. They even check several “markers” that can be indications of chromosomal abnormalities. Technology is pretty cool, y’all. I am elated to share the news that our beautiful baby girl checked out perfectly. I’m so thankful. I know many families aren’t this lucky. I don’t take one single milestone for granted.

Now that the genitals are fully formed, the doctor was also able to confirm with absolute certainty that we are having a baby girl. I have been second guessing this since the last ultrasound and driving Matt crazy. It’s reassuring to finally have a definite answer. Let’s just say I would have a lot of items to return and an entire registry to redo if something would have popped up between those legs. Haha!

Now on to more great news…the tear in the placenta is COMPLETELY healed. My body has absorbed all of the leftover blood, and the tear healed so well that the specialist had to look back at his records to see where it used to be. Is God amazing or what? I couldn’t have asked for a better day. All of the fear and anxiety in my body have been replaced by joy and gratitude. Thank you to each and every one of you who have prayed for us. I know I’ve said this before, but we truly wouldn’t be where we are today without you.

After hearing such positive news, we finished off the day by going to order the set of nursery furniture I’ve had my eye on. It felt so surreal to order a crib! The store said it will take 12 to 14 weeks for the furniture to come in. It’s even crazier to think that by the time we pick up our order, we will be just a few weeks shy of the big day.

As a whole, it seems like this pregnancy has crawled by at a snail’s pace. When I actually stop and realize that in 20 short weeks we will be taking a new person home with us, though, it all seems like a whirlwind. Now that we know our sweet girl is healthy and mama has healed, I feel like we can actually enjoy the remainder of the pregnancy and take our time getting everything ready for her arrival.

I can’t wait to meet Lucy Grace in February. Lucy means “light” and as her name suggests, she is the light of God’s grace at the end of a dark and difficult tunnel. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but every single second will be worth it when I hold our beautiful daughter in my arms. ❤
